The thermal engine (1) has at least one associated high pressure expansion engine (5). High pressure steam is pref. generated from the waste gas and waste steam heat of the thermal engine, and is overheated in a superheater (4). Before steam injection (23) into the combustion chamber (9), this high pressure steam generates additional effective work in the expansion engine. The expansion engine is formed as a high pressure turbine, screw type motor, rotating piston engine, reciprocating piston engine, etc. The gas-steam-expansion engine is formed for expansion to below atmospheric pressure. It has a condenser, and a compressor behind it. USE/ADVANTAGE - Electricity generation, drive for machines and vehicles. Pref. for small and medium-sized plant. Improved thermal efficiency.
