In the system for each frequency for transmission of the communication channels separate devices are provided for signal processing and for data exchange between the air interface and the exchange installation. It is formed from individual modules or racks, over which the occurring useful data rate per time interval is distributed. Each module is available for bus transmission capacity for a specific number of frequencies. For internal transmissions per frequency and time interval a fixed number, in up-link and in down-link, of data packets is transmitted via the bus system. Additionally to the useful data packets control data (O and M data packets) for the devices for signal processing and for data exchange are transmitted. For their flexible and rapid exchange a control process is defined, which is based on a logical ring of hardware units for the subscribers, with which the right to transmit is passed on from one unit to another.
