The discriminator finds the abnormality of a resolver attached to a motor for a robot or a numerical controller and gives or interrupts the application of drive control signals to protect the motor driver and inverter. The discriminator has a signal detector that rectifies waves on receiving the output of the resolver and at the same time generates the value of a DC voltage eliminated of any ripple and also has a microprocessor that on receiving the output of the detector compares the output signal with a reference voltage in a comparator, if greater than the reference, to find the resolver normal but, if smaller, to find the resolver abnormal.
