<p>The apparatus includes a conveying device (14) for transporting individual container (12) from a first location for customer insertion to a second location for selective container ejection and a third location for selective container shredding. A spinning device (22) imparts rotation to the individual containers (12) while passing between the first and second locations, preferably causing the uniform product code data to travel in a helical path for multiple reads by a scanning device (24) prior to reaching the second location. Processed electronic output signals are generated by the central processing unit (26) to control an ejector mechanism (28) if the scanning device (24) does not read recognizable uniform product code date from the container (12). If recognizable uniform product code data is read by the scanning device (24) and verified by the central processing unit (26), the container (12) passes onto shredding gears (58) located at the third location.</p> |
