An apparatus (4) is provided for monitoring the voltage of a battery (1) comprising a plurality of DC supply units (2A-2H). The apparatus (4) includes a voltage generator (10), such as a high voltage amplifier, which generates a voltage varying with time. The amplitude of variation is at least as great as the battery voltage. Comparator means (16) are used to indicate when the varying voltage is a predetermined function of a voltage indicative of the voltage across at least one of the DC supply units (2A-2H). Thus, the voltage of a DC supply unit may be monitored without the DC supply unit being connected across a voltmeter. As the voltage generated by the generator (10) varies with time, the time at which the varying voltage is said predetermined function provides a value representative of the voltage across the DC supply unit. |
