At least one flat plate (2,2a) can be rotated about the stagnation point of the fingerprint coil windings. Pins (4) fixed into and perpendicular wrt. the plate at fixed points define the winding turning points. A wire is fed tangentially to the rotatable plate via a guide mechanism. The plate has bores for inserting the pins which are axially movable in the bores. When fully withdrawn into the plate the pins lie outside the region of the windings. They can be automatically moved by a drive mechanism during the winding process. ADVANTAGE - Fingerprint coils can be produced mechanically and at low cost.
