<p>Traction apparatus for the relief of spinal problems includes a frame (16), which may either be free-standing or wall-mounted, means (18, 22) for securing the upper torso of a user to the frame and a support (14) for supporting the user's lower body. The support (14) may be a base on which the user can stand or a seat (14). The means for securing the user's upper torso includes padded rests (18) for location under the user's armpits and cuffs (22) which are secured around the user's wrists. The cuffs (22) engage the frame to hold the user's arms close to his sides. The means (18, 22) for securing the user's upper torso and the support (14) are movable relative to one another in a vertical direction into a position in which the user's body is substantially wholly supported, under gravity, by the means (18, 22) for securing the upper torso. A foot-pad (40) movable in a horizontal plane and engageable by the user's feet may be provided to enable the user to move his lower body.</p> |
