An agent for the selective control of weeds in crops comprises in addition to inert carriers and additives, as active ingredient a mixt of (a) a herbicidal amt. haloacetamide of formula R1CH2CONR5CR2=CR3R4 (I) and (b) a herbicidally antagonistic amt. of a furfuryl oxazolidine deriv. of formula (II). In the formulae, R1 = Cl; R2 = 1-6C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; R3, R4 = H or 1-6C alkyl or together form alkylene so that the sum of C atoms in R2, R3 and R4 is 1-8; R5 = 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkoxyalkyl or 2-4C alkenyl. USE/ADVANTAGE- The combination of herbicide and safener (II) is esp. useful for weed control in maize crops, as well as in sugar cane, millet, rice and other cereals such as wheat, rye, barley and oats. (II) Protects the crops but not the weeds from the phytotoxic effects of (I). Suitable amts. for use are 0.001-2 (esp. 0.005-0.5)kg/ha.
