A self-propelled disbrancher can be used to hold and lop larger tree branches, as well as whole trees. Until now one used so-called felling saws which were secured at the front end of a hydraulic crane, which held with claws the trunk of a tree and saw with a pivoting circular cross-cut saw. The other solution was for a worker to be lifted in a hoisting cage up to the required spot and to manually work there with a saw. In both cases the sawn parts fall uncontrollably down, because although the felling saws retain the sawn part, they cannot hold it in the original position, since they cannot transmit any torque to the arm of the crane. Fastening was ensured by two universal joints. To avoid this disadvantage, a joint between the felling saw unit and the machine frame is chosen which can receive bending forces as well as torques. The felling saw unit (8) is rotatably and swivellingly secured in a controllable manner to a torsion stiff, jointless, telescopable, so that the whole operation can be remote-controlled from the driver's cab of the self-propelled disbrancher. Costly closing-off and safety measures may thus be dispensed with. |
