PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation of diamond by evacuating a vacuum vessel to keep diamond out of contact with air and oxygen and focusing an IR on the table of diamond. CONSTITUTION:The IR radiated from an IR source 2 placed at the focus of a paraboloidal reflecting mirror 1 is split into parallel beams 3, condensed by a condensing lens 4 and passed through a transparent window 6 of a vacuum vessel 5. The vessel 5 is evacuated by a vacuum pump 9 to exclude air and oxygen from the periphery of an ornamental diamond 8, and the IR is concentrated on the diamond 8 placed faceup on a holder 7 to heat the diamond without oxidation and combustion. Meanwhile, a thermocouple 10 is arranged in a pavillion under the diamond 8, the heating temp. of the diamond 8 is controlled by a temp. controller 11, and the diamond is heat-treated at >=800 deg.C and toned. |
