PURPOSE: To provide a control apparatus which tracks a path of an endless belt. CONSTITUTION: This tracking apparatus includes rollers 20, 30 and a belt steering roller 40. A span of a belt 50 defined between the roller 20 and the belt steering roller 40 travels in a plane, and both the roller 20 and the belt steering roller 40 are adapted for rotational movement about longitudinal axes perpendicular to the plane. The belt steering roller 40 is also capable of performing a tilting movement through a midpoint of the belt steering roller 40 in a soft tilt axis A-A intersecting the longitudinal axis. Sensing means 160 senses a lateral position of the belt and generates an electrical signal representing the lateral position. The electrical signal is analyzed, and first and second time periods are determined. The first and second time periods form a time duration ratio for keeping the steering roller at the negatively or positively tilted position. |
