<p>PURPOSE: To provide a safety apparatus used for inflating a vehicle occupant restraint. CONSTITUTION: This device is composed of an inflator housing 40 and a canister 90 containing a gas generating material 114. The canister 90 has a resiliently deflectable wall which presses against the inflator housing 40 to hold the canister 90 against movement relative to the inflator housing 40. A cushion 112 is installed inside the canister 90 between the wall and the gas generating material 114. Further, a auto ignition material 108 is disposed in the projecting wall portion of the canister 90. When the safety apparatus is assembled, the wall of the canister 90 is resiliently deflected by applying a force against the projecting wall portion of the canister 90. When the inflator housing 40 is closed, the canister 90 is retained against movement relative to the inflator housing 40 by the force applied by the resiliently deflected wall of the canister 90 against the inflator housing 40.</p> |
