PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful for the prevention and treatment of congestive heart failure. CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [W is formula II or formula III (Z is -V(CH2 )b CO2 H; (b) is 1 or 2; V is O when (b) is 1, and methlene when (b) is 2); X is H, cyano, or -C≡CH; dotted line represents optional double bond], e.g. (1R,2R,3as,9as)- [2,3,3a,4,9,9a-hexahydro-2-hydroxy-1-((S)-3-hydroxyoctyl)-1H- benz[f]indene-5-yl]oxy}acetic acid. The compound is especially effective against congestive heart failure without pulmonary hypertension. In the manufacture of medicament, the compound of the formula I is included with a ratio of 0.05-95 wt.%, and the daily dose of the compound is 25μm-250 mg/day/kg.
