Glycopeptide adjuvant for increasing antibody prodn. - formulated as optimised dose for dissolving in aq. antigen soln., more active than Freund's adjuvant and requires no oil emulsion

Agent for increasing the yield of antibodies (Ab) comprises glycopeptide (I) in a package which contains the characteristic optimal dose for the particular animal being immunised, in a form that can be simply dissolved in the aq. soln. of antigen being used for immunisation. Pref. (I) is N-acetylmuramyl-L-alanyl-D-isoglutamine (Ia), opt. additionally substd. by acetylglucosaminyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - The agent is used in prodn. of vaccines; prepn. of Ab for scientific immunology and in protective immunisation of humans. (I) are chemically synthesised, well defined substances which cause no adverse effects. At very low doses they have a powerful adjuvant action (super to Freund's adjuvant), even without use of an oil emulsion (i.e. formulated as sq. soln.). DOSAGE - (I) is admin. at (per injection) 1 microg to mice; 4 microg to hens; 25 microg to rabbits and about 50 microg to sheep and goats.
