In sepn. of fibrous and spiky components from fossil fuels, esp. of xylitol from lignite, where the fuel is subjected to intensive shock stress, and is then graded on a shaking screen, (a) the fuel is fed axially to a rotor-fan mill, run without a discharge screen or elements in the form of grinding beams, beaters or other fixed comminuting elements, (b) the coarsely fibrous or spiky components are sepd. from the comminuted prod. from the rotor-fan mill, a shaking screen, and (c) material passing through the shaking screen is fed to a horizontal centrifugal sieve provided with a 2-part sieve basket, and is subjected to intense turbulence. USE/ADVANTAGE - Fibrous or spiky components can also be sepd. from peat. Good yields and sharpness of sepn. are obtd.
