A defined set of correction measures for defined subsystem faults is set up and stored in priority order. Subsystem operating parameters are detected and corresp. output signals processed in a data processor to detect faulty functions in at least one subsystem and to select a sequence of correction measures for the faulty functions. The correction measures are performed sequentially to modify the operation of the system according to the control signals from the data processor. The corrected subsystem is checked by detecting the operating parameters to determine the effect of the correction measures. USE/ADVANTAGE - For controlling operation of system with several subsystems in motor vehicle. Enables positive control according to instantaneous operating state of motor vehicle.
