Filements (I) based on acetone soluble cellulose acetate (II) are claimed, whereby the degree of polymerisation of (II) is 110-210. Also claimed is the prepn. of (I) by conventional dry spinning from an optically isotropic spinning soln. that contains (II) dissolved in acetone and opt. contg. additives, whereby the concn. of (II) is 35-47 wt.%. Pref. (II) has a degree of substd. of 2.2-2.7 (2./4-2.6)> USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are for the prodn. of cigarette filters. The process is simpler and more economical than prior art and produces filamnets of (II).
