Dental material compatibility test - uses saliva sample as reference for comparison of saliva impedance with further samples using different dental materials

To determine the compatibility of a tooth replacement material in a patient, a saliva sample is taken as a reference sample. A portion of a tooth replacement material is inserted into the patient's mouth, and left for at least 1 min., and a further saliva sample is taken. This is repeated for a portion of another tooth replacement material. The impedance is measured for the reference and further saliva samples, using AC, and the material for the tooth replacement is chosen according to the least deviation from the reference. Also claimed is a test assembly with a bridge circuit with at least two condensers (40,42) switched (52,54) in parallel in-phase with condensers (48,50) of the same size. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is used to test the compatibility of dental material before insertion into the patient's mouth. The technique gives a rapid and in vitro assessment of the suitability of a dental material before use.
