Substd. 2-aza-anthraquinone derivs. of formula (I) are new In (Ia) X = R2O and Y = H; In (Ib) X = H and Y = R2O; R1 = Me, Et, Pr or Ph; R2 = H, Me, Et, Pr or COMe USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal agents, inhibiting the enzymes of viruses, bacteria and fungi and therefore can be used to treat illnesses caused by these microorganisms in humans and animals. The natural substance tolyplocladin (IVa) and its isomer (IVb) and their homologues are prepd. by a simpler method than previous methods for the prepn. of 2-aza-anthraquinones and bostrycoidin.
