The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:1002648/C4-C5/1> wherein F is the radical of an organic dye, Q is an -HNOC-, -HNO2S- or -N=N-bridge member, A is a six-membered carbocyclic ring, X is a hydrogen or chlorine atom, Y is a chlorine or bromine atom, m is 1, 2 or 3 and n is 1, 2 or 3. The dyes are prepared by (1) condensing a 1,4-dihalophthalazine-carboxylic acid or sulphonic acid halide with an organic dye containing an -NH2 group (2) diazotizing a 1,4-dihalophthalizine having a diazotizable amino group in the carbocyclic ring and coupling with an azo component and (3) reacting and acid halide as specified under (1) above with an azo dye intermediate containing an -NH2 group and completing the preparation of the azo dye by the coupling reaction. The dyes may be used to colour synthetic polyamide, polyester and polyurethane fibres and preferably natural or regenerated cellulose fibres by the usual reactive dye processes. In examples, the preparation of monoazo, disazo, metallized azo, phthaolcyanine and anthraquinone dyes is described. |
