929,513. Jet-propulsion plant air-intake. H. M. HOBSON Ltd. April 3, 1962 [May 2, 1961], No. 15924/61. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] An adjustable centre body 30 of the air intake of an aircraft jet-propulsion engine is operated by servo pistons 31 to maintain a Pi ratio -, where Pi is the inlet pressure imme- Pc diately behind the normal shock wave and Pc is the pressure immediately behind the oblique shock wave, at a value dependent upon the Mach No. Mach. No. is measured by a device 36 subject internally to static ambient pressure Po and containing an evacuated bellows 7 and a bellows 3 subject internally to a pressure P P such that the ratio - is proportional to Mach. Po No. Levers 2, 6 interconnected by a movable fulcrum 5 and coacting with nozzles 1, 8 are actuated by the bellows 3, 7 respectively, and the nozzles control a servo piston 28 which adjusts the fulcrum 5 in such manner that the position of the servo piston is indicative of Mach. No. A valve 27 is actuated by the servo piston 28 so that a change of Mach. No. results in deflection of a diaphragm 24 which, through a valve 20, causes movement of a servo piston 42 having a valve 25 for balancing the effect on the diaphragm of the valve 27 and having a connection with a movable fulcrum 17 for a pair of levers 45, 46 controlling nozzles 16, 19 and acted upon by an evacuated bellows 43 and a bellows 44 subject internally to the pressure Pi. Externally, the bellows 43, 44 are subject to the pressure Pc. The nozzles 16, 19 control a servo piston 14 which, through a lever 10 operates valves 32, 33 controlling the servo pistons 31. The upper end of the lever 10 is normally secured by a latch 12 but can be operated by the pilot in emergency. |
