Evaporator for localised application of anti-coating media to a passing foil strip - incorporating a shutter plate with a contoured closing edge

The evaporator for localised application of anti-coating media to a foil strip (9), before it passes over another evaporation source for coating, incorporates a slit nozzle (6) with a shutter which opens and closes at given instants. The shutter is formed by means of a plate (11) moved back and forth over the slit nozzle (6) by a drive (19). The pattern on the foil strip (9) is produced by use of a contoured closing edge of the plate (11). The plate (11) has at least one tongue remaining constantly over the nozzle (6) and running in a guide groove in a fixed shutter plate (10). The edge of the plate (11) has at least one recessed region sufficiently deep to leave the nozzle open for any position of the plate. The plate (11) is moved by means of a rotating cam (21) and a rod (15). Alternatively, its motion is produced with the use of piezo-elements. USE/ADVANTAGE - For patterned coating of foil strips. Rapidly operable evaporator shutters with easily interchangeable elements allow sharply defined coating patterns to be produced.
