A method and an arrangement for checking working computer passwords, so as to control user access to the working computer or sections thereof, for instance. At least one password is stored (8) in a separate utility computer (7) from a parameter memory (4) of the working computer (2). When needing to check a password, for instance to effect a locking and/or unlocking routine, the working computer (2) requests the user to insert one or more passwords and then transfers the inserted password(s) to the utility computer (7). The utility computer (7) makes a comparison between the stored and the inserted passwords. Depending on whether or not the comparison is correct, the utility computer (7) sends a reply "correct" or "wrong" to the working computer (2). <IMAGE> |
