A unitary head/drum structure for scanning transverse tracks on a magnetic tape, particularly video-frequency signals, is made by- (a) assembling a plurality of equal discs of ferrite 10, about a centre-piece, Fig. 9; <FORM:1031280/C1/1> <FORM:1031280/C1/2> <FORM:1031280/C1/3> <FORM:1031280/C1/4> <FORM:1031280/C1/5> <FORM:1031280/C1/6> (b) bonding the assembly by fused glass or enamel, which may be powdered, and (c) machining to the line 18, just inwardly of the disc abutments, so that the periphery 19 contains recording gaps 24 of a desired size. The edge of the structure may be bevelled to suit the usual narrow record tracks, Fig. 12. The centre member may be longer than the discs 10, Fig. 14, to provide a shaft portion 25, Fig. 15. Preferably, the portion 25 is pregrooved, 26, and bored out, 27, Fig. 16, so that the glass or enamel magnetically isolates adjacent heads in the shaft region.
|
