<p>PURPOSE:To provide a carbon-modified zeolite with improved adsorption characteristics, especially adsorption characteristics when each constitutional gas component is separated from air. CONSTITUTION:Carbon is carried on the surface of fine pores of zeolite and the carbon is formed by pyrolysis of a hydrocarbon species formed by plasma treatment of a hydrocarbon. In general, it is preferable that the amt. of a modified carbon is at most 3% of the weight of dried zeolite and as a zeolite for a raw material, a zeolite with a fine pore diameter of about 5Angstrom or larger is suitable. In addition, the amt. of modified carbon and the adsorption speed are adjustable by changing only plasma treating time and they are usable as adsorbents and catalysts with various surface characteristics. As the amt. of adsorption of nitrogen with a large molecular diameter and Ar with a small molecular diameter are increased and the amt. of adsorption of oxygen with an intermediate molecular diameter between them are little changed by this treatment, oxygen in air can be separated with high selectivity from nitrogen and Ar by utilizing this characteristics.</p> |
