PURPOSE: To provide a robust universal chuck for a machine for piercing a tap hole of a shaft furnace in which there is no danger to transmit biasing force generated in a spindle, and in which tensile/impact force is transmitted to an end part of a rod, and in which a substantial rotation moment can be transmitted to a drill bit. CONSTITUTION: In a machine 10 for piercing a tap hole of a shaft furnace, a universal chuck 32 transmits tensile force to an end part of a rod 48, and transmits a rotation moment to a drill bit. This universal chuck has a rotary body 34 mounted on a drive spindle 26 of an actuation member 18 capable of sliding on the piercing machine 10. A support structure integrated with the actuation member 18 forms a guide cage around the rotary body 34. A device to transmit tensile force to the rod 48, and transmit the rotation moment to the drill bit is disposed around a forward cavity in the rotary body 34. |
