PURPOSE:To provide the subject new compound exhibiting a broad spectrum antimicrobial activity owing to a gyrase inhibitory effect and an antitumor effect and useful as an antimicrobial agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound of the formula [R<1> to R<4> are each H, a 1 to 6C alkyl or acyl], e.g. 3-n-heptyl-1,6,8-trihydroxyisochroman-7-carboxylic acid. In addition, the above-mentioned compound exhibits the following physical properties; Appearance: white powder; molecular formula: C17H24O6; HRFAB-mass spectrum: [m/z, (M+H)<+>-H2O]: 307.1544 (Calculated value: 307.1545); melting point: >=145 deg.C (decomposition); specific rotatory power: [alpha] D(24 deg.C): +32.36 (C=0.13, MeOH); ultraviolet absorption spectra (nm) lambda (epsilon): 214.5 (29700), 215.5 (sh), 252.0 (9700), 307.0 (4600). The compound of the formula can be obtained by culturing Penicillium Sp. N 990-12 (FERM-BP-3959) under an aerobic condition. |
