PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-insulating composition having increased melting point without losing the foamability of alkali metal silicate, resistant to high temperature over a long period and having improved whitening resistance, water-resistance and alkali resistance by reacting a water-soluble silicate with an aluminate, aluminum hydroxide, acid clay or a clay mineral to an extent not to lose the water-solubility of the silicate. CONSTITUTION:The objective heat-resistant heat-insulating composition is produced by reacting a water-soluble silicate expressed by the structural formula Me2O.nSiO2 (n is 0.5-4.5) with one or more substances selected from an aluminic acid salt, aluminum hydroxide, acid clay and a clay mineral to an extent not to lose the water-solubility of the silicate. The water-soluble silicate is e.g. sodium silicate, lithium silicate, potassium silicate, cesium silicate, t-amine silicate or quaternary ammonium silicate. |
