Described are the compounds having the structures: and wherein R represents C3-C6 alkyl; C3-C6 alkenyl; C6-C10 aralkyl; C6-C10 alkaryl; hydroxy-C2-C6-alkyl; C1-C4-alkoxy-C2-C6 alkyl; and C5-C8 cycloalkyl; and wherein the R moieties in each structure are the same and uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes, and perfumed articles (including fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, hair conditioners, floor waxes, solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, and deodorant compositions and deodorant articles), as well as processes for preparing such compounds by reacting hydroxy organic compounds with vinyl norbornene in the presence of a protonic or Lewis acid catalyst. |
