PURPOSE: To improve a cutting insert for chipforming machining capable of being indexable so that chip breaking action of the insert can be effectively exhibited in a wide range of cutting conditions. CONSTITUTION: To a conventional type chip breaking rib 17 disposed on the inner side at each corner of a polygonal insert, a pair of long projections 22 are disposed close to a base of a diagonal surface descending from a nose part of it toward the corner direction to be symmetric to a bisector of the corner. By means of the rib 17 and the projections 22, at least, chip breaking effect is effectively exhibited in cutting in a wide range of conditions of cutting depth and feed speed. |
