PURPOSE:To display different kinds of pictures on a single display screen simultaneously by designating an area of each picture so as to compress/expand each picture. CONSTITUTION:A picture area division section 13 receives a command from a controller 18 and an area designation section 19 and divides an input picture by designating the area of the picture to designate the compression method depending on the kind of the picture. A moving picture compression section 14 compresses a moving picture A, a quasi-moving picture compression section 15 compresses a quasi-moving picture B, a still picture compression section 16 compresses a still picture C and a background color compression section 17 compresses a background picture D. The controller 18 records each of the compressed pictures to an external recording device 30. |
