In an automatic gramophone of the type wherein the record diameter is sensed by inward movement of the pick-up arm until checked by the record, the inward movement is produced by a cam 46 on the cam disc 35 controlling the cycle, this cam acting on a lever 49 coupled by a spring 50 to a lever 48 which is rigidly secured to the shaft 20 to which the pickup arm is coupled. When inward movement of the pick-up arm is arrested the lever 49 can continue to move against the spring 50, but the lever 48 does not move, and a pin-shaped cam follower 47 on lever 48 enters one of the three cam tracks 53-55 according to the diameter of the record The transitional portions 60 of the cam tracks bring the stylus over the run-in groove of the record, and portion 61 maintains the stylus in this position until it is lowered on to the record by a further cam surface on the cam disc 35.</p> |
