PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic rail brake which can maintain a specific adhe sion power and also can ensure optical geometrical dimensions, a light weight and easy manufacture. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic rail brake is constructed so that the total structural height from a support face 11 of a leg piece 3 of a magnetic pole piece supported on a rail to the upper edge of a loading coil box 1 is not larger than 170mm, that the internal dimensions L×B×H of the loading coil box 1 for storing a field coil 6 does not exceed 60×30×5mm, that the structural height of the magnetic pole piece which is a metallic magnet does not exceed 130mm, and that a rated output of the field coil 6 does not exceed 1.45kW/m.
