Vehicle ABS braking control system - makes deduction of individual wheel speeds/accelerations, hence vehicle speed, and whether vehicle is driving on snow

A procedure for controlling a car's ABS system requires several distinct steps. First, the individual wheel speeds and accelerations are ascertained and from these, an instantaneous speed for the vehicle is deduced. A brake fluid pressure limit is calculated as a function of the vehicle speed, the ratio of pressure to speed being lower at low speeds. Next, a decision is taken as to whether the car is travelling on snow, in which case the above pressure limit is re-calculated. The whole procedure is micro-computer based. ADVANTAGE- Stable braking properties over entire speed range.
