A method and apparatus for testing the susceptability of a test sample to change between a liquid state and a coagulated state. A test sample (4) is applied to a porous sheet (5). The sample spreads through the porous sheet until it coagulate when the flow stops. By measuring a parameter indicative of the extent of spread or rate of spread of the sample e.g. the conductivity/electrical impedance (8) between thin electrodes (2, 3) on either side of the sheet (1), one may determine when coagulation and/or subsequent lysis of the sample occurs.
