A body enclosure (10) to prevent or treat hypothermia or hyperthermia includes a first sheet having a first and second end. A fastener (50, 53) releasably connects the first end to the second end to form an enclosure about the body. Air from outside of the enclosure (10) is admitted into the enclosure (10) to be in direct contact with the body. The air is then discharged from the enclosure. In another embodiment, the body enclosure (200) includes first, second and third sheets (226, 240, 260). The third sheet (260) has a longitudinal seam (224) which is releasably connected by a fastener. The first sheet (226) includes an inlet (244) for inflating and deflating a mattress portion (248) that is enclosed between the first sheet (226) and the second sheet (240). The first sheet (226) also includes a second inlet (252) for admitting air into an enclosure disposed between the second sheet (240) and the third sheet (260).
