A glycation inhibitor containing at least one member selected from among ascochlorin and derivatives thereof, represented by general formula (I), as the active ingredient, wherein R represents hydrogen, -(CnH2n)-R' (wherein n represents an integer of 1 to 5; R' represents hydrogen or COOR'' substituted on any one of the n carbon atoms; and R'' represents hydrogen or C1-C3 alkyl), or -COR''' (wherein R''' represents pyridyl, amino substituted by a C1-C3 group, phenoxyalkyl halogenated on the benzene ring, or phenyl substituted by C1-C3 alkoxy or C1-C3 alkoxycarbonyl). The compounds (I) are useful for preventing or treating various complications of diabetes, such as diabetic neurosis, nephropathy and retinopathy. |
