Coolant treatment appts. has a first pump (3) for coolant suction from a coolant tank (1) of a machine (2), a filter (4) located upstream or downstream of the first pump, and pref. a console (5). The novelty is that the filter (4) is followed by an UV irradiation unit (6) and a second pump (7) for delivering the purified or treated coolant. A coolant treatment process, employing the above appts., involves withdrawing coolant from a machine coolant tank (1), subjecting the coolant to pref. multistage filtering to remove dirt particles, UV irradiating the filtered coolant and pumping away the treated coolant opt. back into the coolant tank (1). USE/ADVANTAGE - For purifying machining coolants or coolant emulsions. The appts. provides simple and rapid coolant treatment, esp. including elimination of bacteria, fungi and spores, without complete coolant replacement.
