A sorting unit has a symmetrical rotary sieve (3) concentric within a housing (1) and within which is a rotating drum (2). The outer extremities of the drum are bear sorting fingers (17) which run along the side of the sieve (3). Large particles exit through an outlet passage (15). The novelty is that the housing (1) inlet (5) is located at that end of the housing furthest away from the drum bearing the particle conveyor wings (11); further that a turbulence chamber (18) is located on the upper side end sector of the housing (1), from the radial rim of which large heavy parts pass into the outlet passage (15). USE/ADVANTAGE - The assembly removes coarse particulate matter from smaller particulate matter. The assembly minimises the wear and damage to the product from which coarse particulate matter is to be removed.
