The spiral cutting machine produces a square-section wire bar with chamfered corners by cutting it from the end of a tube. The disk cutters (2 and 3) of the shears have on the shearing side of the periphery a cutting flange (10, 11) whose cutting angle (alpha) is less than 90 deg. Thus as the wire bar is sheared from the hot tube the opposite corners are produced with a chamfer. USE/ADVANTAGE - Mfr. of square-section wire bar with chamfered corners by cutting from hot tube. Surface faults are prevented in subsequent rolling operations. Improved product quality is obtained.
