In a double fourdrinier papermaking machine, at least one water extraction bar at the water extraction zone has a number of setting units across the paper width. Each unit sets the pressure surface of the bar within a given width span. At least one water extraction bar has setting units across the machine width, to give a specific applied pressure at each position. The applied pressure and the setting level are controlled according to the paper weight profile or the spindle setting of the stock inlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is for the extraction of water from pulp, for conversion to paper, in a double fourdrinier papermaking machine. The adjustment gives a correction for any irregularities in the extraction of water from the pulp, to give a required paper weight profile.
