The air safety system, for German national coverage, has a number of installations (ANL 1-ANL n) that can be radar and radio facilities. These are unmanned and located in remote locations. Each installation can consist of different equipment items (GER 11-GER nq) and have self test stages ('Built in test equipment' BITE). The units within an installation group are coupled to a local control and monitoring system (LCMS 1-LCMS n). These connect with remote control and monitoring systems (RCMS 1-RCMS n), connected in turn to a central station (ZEN). An expert system (WARTEX) that has a facility to log all maintenance and repairs to any of the stations is coupled to the central station. This provides an electronic `service book' that can be accessed at any time. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides expert system input for maintenance and repair. Faults are recognised and corrected very early.
