The invention relates to an explosive cutter for mine mooring cables (3), having a housing (7) which has an entry jaw (17) for the mine mooring cable (3) and an explosive charge (9) accommodated in its interior adjacent to the entry jaw (17). In order to effect simple release from an underwater vessel (5) and clamping of the mine mooring cable (3), a slide (18) is provided which can be displaced against a spring (18a) in the opposite direction to the direction of travel of the underwater vessel (5) and is held on the underwater vessel (5) via a releasable connection, secured by the spring (18a), of locking lugs (21) and recesses (20). The slide (18) projects with one end into the entry jaw (17) in such a way that it can be acted upon by the mine mooring cable (3). With a nose (31), the slide (18) secures a spring-preloaded clamping lever (27) releasable against the spring (18a) upon displacement.
