This relates to a non-human transgenic mammal characterized in that all its germinal and somatic cells contain the nucleotide sequence coding for human interleukin-6 (hIL-6) - under the control of a liver- specific promoter - introduced into the said mammal or into a foetus of the said mammal at an early embryo stage in its development. Very satisfactory results have been obtained when the liver-specific promoter which can be induced by metals which controls the gene for hIL-6 is the promoter of the mouse gene which codes for the metallothionine-I (MT-I) protein. The figure shows a chimeric construct which is microinjected into fertilized mammal eggs comprising the nucleotide sequence coding for hIL-6 and the promoter of the mouse gene which codes for the protein metallothionine-I.
