An arrangement for a vehicle fitted with load banks 1, 2 for holding a load consisting in particular of timber, at least one chain 7 or similar designed to tighten firmly the load on the vehicle after one of its ends has been passed over the load from one side of the vehicle to the other, and a remote-controlled loading and unloading device 4, 5 for the load. The chain is fitted at the aforementioned end with a first element 8, positioned on the vehicle so as to be accessible from the loading/unloading device 4, 5, while the loading/unloading device is fitted with a second element 10 which, when in contact with the first element, joins the elements together so that the said end of the chain of the load/unload device can be passed over the load to the other side of the vehicle, and whereby the load/unload device can be operated to release the said connection between the elements so that the chain's said end is freed at the other side of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
