PURPOSE: To ensure a structurally stable ceramic igniter simply and inexpensively by forming at least one slot in a conductive ceramic molded member in a non-sintered state, and inserting a non-conductive material having specific density and thermal expansion rate into the slot, and further densifying the resulting structure. CONSTITUTION: A ceramic igniter 10 comprises a U shaped or single hair pin shaped molded structure 11, and a slot 17 filled with a non-conductive material is disposed between legs 13 and 15. The molded structure 11 is molded with a ceramic material forming a conductive material. A material forming an insert for the slot is a non-conductive material having a thermal expansion rate within about±50% of that of the conductive ceramic molded structure material and density of about 50 to 90%. After the insert of the slot is stabilized, the whole of an igniter system is densified preferably with a hot static water pressure press. Hereby, a ceramic igniter having a stable structure is simply ensured.
