PURPOSE: To promptly conduct generation of gas at the time of crash and conduct prompt operation by comprising an operating means for permitting high pressure gas to act on a drive member and move in response to the ignition of a linear ignition material and forming the ignition material with a frangible sheath and a gas generating pyrotechnic cord disposed within the sheath. CONSTITUTION: A seat belt retractor 12 comprises a spool 14, and a seat belt web 16 is wound around the spool 14. A take-up spring rotates the spool 14 in a belt retraction direction. The retractor also comprises a frangible sheath 98 made of a linear ignition material 86 and at least one or more cords 100 made of the ignition material are disposed in the sheath 98. With the ignition of the cords 100 at the time of crash, the ignition reaction is transferred along materials 104, 106. As the sheath 98 is frangible, it is broken by the ignition reaction to release gas to a pressure chamber. Then a piston 68 is moved toward an end portion 112 of a sleeve 64 to draw a wire rope 47 and thereby pull the seat belt. |
