PURPOSE:To restrict the unnecessary consumption of ink by providing two color heads, a plurality of capping mechanisms and a sucking/coupling element communicating with the capping mechanisms on a carriage. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 1 slides on carriage shafts 3a, 3b A color head 5 and a black head 5 are mounted to the carriage 1 with the nozzle faces thereof directed downward. The nozzle face of the color head 4 placed on the lower face of the carriage 1 has a group of nozzles for discharging inks of cyan, magenta and yellow colors which are enclosed by a shutter guide. A suction needle 7 is set to a mechanism frame 2 and is communicated with an ink sucking means 9 via a waste ink tube 8. In order to suck the ink, the carriage 1 is moved to the mechanism frame 2 and the suction needle 7 is inserted into a sucking/coupling element 6. The ink is sucked by the ink sucking means 9. |
