A coke oven door seal, including a blade (11) for application onto the door frame (4), has a sealing element (20) of musical note shape with a straight portion (20a), for attachment onto one of the side faces of the blade (11), and a hollow end portion (20b) which extends along the entire periphery and is fixed to the blade (11), part of this hollow portion projecting beyond the end of the blade for application onto the frame (4). The sealing element (20) pref. consists of a silicone-contg. fluorinated elastomer or of silicate or ceramic fibres reinforced by closely-woven metallic weft threads. The straight portion (20a) pref. has a metallic plate (20c) on one or each side face. The hollow portion (20b) is inflatable or deflatable. ADVANTAGE - Hermeticity is maintained, in spite of thermal deformation of the door, without the use of elastic elements, springs, etc..
