<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a leak detector and a detection method in which the maximum pressure of detector can be measured, indicated and sustained. CONSTITUTION: The leak detector monitors leakage of fluid from a double valve stem seal valve 24. A valve housing 25, a valve stem 28, a first valve stem seal 30 and a second valve stem seal 34 define a chamber 36. A pressure gauge 44 having a pointer 48 for pointing and sustaining a maximum pressure is fixed to the valve 24 so that a fluid is conducted through a port 33 to the chamber 36. Leakage of a chemical flowing into the chamber 36 and sufficient for increasing the pressure in the chamber is pointed and sustained by the pointer 48. Consequently, failure and leakage of the first valve stem seal 30 are indicated even it the pressure in the chamber is reduced later.</p> |
